I am a Machine Learning Researcher at Multiverse Computing, working on improving the efficiency of modern large language models. I am working hard on pushing the limits of distillation and hybrid/linear forms of attention.
Before that, I completed my PhD in mathematics at Instituto Superior Técnico, advised by John Huerta and Pedro Boavida de Brito. My research focused on higher categories, stratified bordisms, and topological field theories with defects.
Before that, I completed my master’s in pure mathematics at Instituto Superior Técnico, where I received a Diploma of Academic Excellence. I worked on string-nets and tube categories, advised by John Huerta and Roger Picken.
Before that even, I did my bachelor’s in Applied Mathematics & Computation at Instituto Superior Técnico.

The bordism (∞,1)-category as a Morita category of stratified spaces
Lisbon Young Mathematicians Conference · April 2025
Abstract
Joint work in progress with David Ayala and John Francis approaches the bordism (∞,1)-category through a Morita category built from stratified spaces. Exponentiable fibrations and relative functor categories connect geometric bordisms with higher categorical structure. This perspective supplies a foundation for constructing topological quantum field theories via β-factorization homology.
A combinatorial approach to Morita categories
Hodge Club · University of Edinburgh · 15 November 2024
Abstract
A self-contained introduction to Rune Haugseng’s combinatorial construction of higher Morita categories of Eₙ-algebras and their role in topological quantum field theory. The talk introduces non-symmetric ∞-operads and explains Lurie–Dunn additivity, building the background needed to understand these higher algebraic structures.
